A Higher Power: Prayer to Help Stop Smoking

Prayer - As a born-again Christian I believe that "I can do everything through him who gives me strength"(Phil 4:13) Some scriptures I found very helpful were: 1 Co 6:12,19-20; John 8:32,36; Rom 6:12, 8:37, Isa 54:17. I always said that i wanted to quit, although, i never would. I started praying for strength to quit, and honestly after about a year of prayer, I felt I was ready. I had about two weeks of nicorete gum, that may have been expired, but used it anyway, after about two weeks, went off of all forms of aids to quit smoking, and just firmly believe I am still smokeless because I had daily prayed to quit, and strength.

I quit in the May 2001. I found out that I was pregnant and I was using cigarettes and other drugs. I felt a tremendous amount of guilt and shame. I cried out to God, Help me Father!

He delivered me with ongoing persistance and prayer. (LESS THAN A MONTH) TAKING ALL CRAVINGS AND DESIRE FOR CHEMICALS AWAY. Working for the next 3 years as a substance abuse counselor (in training), serving and seeking the Lord with all my heart and soul, helping others.

You may scoff at this writing however unbeleiving it may sound for some, riduculed of being a holy rolly I know my deliverance is real. I have an enourmous amount of gratitude to the true Lord Jesus Christ - I could slip back, focus on myself and let the daily life problems consume me, rationalize that it was within my own strenth and not His power. But deep down I know. I admit that I did (early on) think about using cigarettes-alcohol and other drugs but the DESIRE is gone! I went to the job interview for the substance abuse counselor position 8 months pregnant and got hired!! Now that is God right? He placed me in a position that I could help others. I worked there for three great years, seving as the tobacco cessation counselor for the last six months there. If he can do this for me, he can and WILL deliver you too from any chemical addiction/gambling/cancer whatever your need. May the LORD Bless. Love you all. MLJ
