Cold Turkey: Quit for Just One Day, Over and Over Again

Cold turkey, with some help :) When I quit smoking, it was a long time coming. I had gotten sick of it and how it controlled most of my waking hours. If I wasn't smoking, I was thinking about when I would be again, or how and when I would be getting my next pack of cigarettes. I decided that I wanted to quit about August of 2001. I set a date for the Great American Smokeout (last November 15th). All I would do, I decided, is quit for one day. That's not a commitment to quit for good. That's just one day. And I can definately not smoke for just ONE DAY!! So, November 15th came and I didn't smoke. I just didn't pick up that cigarette and have it. I decided that I could try that again, just one more day. And again, and again. Now, here I am, almost a year later, and I still haven't picked up that "one last cigarette" because I know there is NO SUCH THING! If I have one, I will be hooked again, and that's something that I don't miss at all. A few days into quitting I picked up the book, "Alan Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking" and it helped SOOOO much. It put everything into perspective and has taught me how to become a non-smoker......Come join the ranks, it's easier than you think....as long as you think it's easier than you thought. (if you know what i mean. HA!)
