Educate Yourself: Learn About Your Addiction

First of all I quit for myself this time. That is important. I hit my own "rock bottom" with this nasty habit. This past Monday marks TWO YEARS since I stopped smoking. I previously smoked for over 20 years. Four things helped me get through it. 1. I hit rock bottom and decided, REALLY decided that I was quitting. 2. I prepared myself psychologically. I set a quit date for two weeks away, and I stuck to it. 3. I used Zyban/Wellbutrin. I started it June 15 and quit smoking June 30. This really really helped with the intensity of the urges to smoke. It mellowed me out and although I wanted a cig, the Zyban helped me not want one as bad. Zyban helped me overcome the urges. I also used the patch, but only for about 10 days. I forgot one day to put it on before leaving for work and never used it again after that. I stayed on the Zyban for about 3 months after I quit. I weaned off it with the assistance of my physician. 4. I educated myself. I learned about my addiction (YES an I am addict to nicotine and always will be). I educated myself on how to quit. I don't think I could have done it without the information and support I received from the website www.quitsmoking.com They offered me endless resources for support and information.
