Expense: Government Hypocrisy
by Daniel Gleeson
Canberra, Act
Australia
My method for quitting involved anger also. Anger at the
hypocritical stance our governments take on smoking. They provide
millions of dollars for public education campaigns to inform the
public about the dangers of diabetes, cholesterol, asthma,
cancer, etc yet happily rake in billions of dollars from tobacco
company taxes. Guaranteed, if the government wasn't collecting
such sums from tobacco companies then there would legislation
passed immediately to make smoking illegal, to avoid the massive
costs incurred on public hospitals from smoking-related illness.
This is why I quit. The government isn't getting another cent out
of my tobacco addiction, and now neither are the tobacco
companies.
