Expense: Money Jar

by Mark

Parma, Ohio
United States

My name is Mark. I am 19 years of age. I started smoking when I was almost 16 becasue I was bored, and had nothing better to do. I knew it wasn't good for me, but was curious.. and had time to experiment with it. Most people find it surprising that I try so hard in life to fix things that are wrong with me at such a young age. When I decided to quit, it wasn't easy to do. I had tried for almost a year. I started, then stopped, then started again.. and kept going like that until I figured out what worked for me. I made a jar that said " Money I 'would've' spent on smoking ". As I watched the money grow, I realized that I had made the right choice. I felt great because my mom smokes. I feel that I have done my part in helping her in her efforts to quit. She's has smoked for almost 35 years. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to quit after smoking that long. But I'm trying every day to help her quit the habit. My father quit when I was 8. So, he has been done for almost 12 years. I am very proud of him for that. Set a goal for yourself, quit for yourself and others, and make a plan for what you'd like to use the money for. Your next vacation, could be virtually free. I wish everyone else who is trying their best, goodluck in quitting. It "IS" possible.
