Home > Expense > Open a Quit Smoking Savings Account Expense: Open a Quit Smoking Savings Accountby Patricia Scimone Chicago, Illinois I have been a smoker for 40 years and smoked 3 packs a day and on the weekends maybe more. Since 3/05/03 I have saved almost $500.00. I have opened a separate savings account just for the money I would have spent on cigarettes. I love to smoke, and would get mad at anyone who did not want me to smoke, but I have realized that I am only dodging a bullett. My two sisters and myself decided to quit on Ash Wednesday. We put the patch on and have been smoke free since. It is not easy and it is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I hope to stay smoke free - I just do not see my self picking up another cigarette - and keep telling myself that you do not need it and it will just taste terrible. I have not coughed since the day I have put the patch on. I would cough so hard that it would make me cry. My two sons are happy that their house and their clothes do not smell of smoke anymore. If I can quit anyone can quite, anyone can quite, because I love to smoke. If someone promised me that I would never get cancer I would have never quit.
