Get Sick: Hospitalized for 8 Days

by Bonnie Foster

Hard Line Method I was a real Hard case. After having smoked for over 30 years, for me it took being hospitalized for 8 days due to a serious bout with Respiratory Distress brought on by having developed C.O.P.D. (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), directly related to smoking cigarettes. After fighting for every breath I took, and being on what I actually felt to be at "Death's door", it wasn't difficult to quit at all! This occured about 2 years ago. Since then not only have I not wanted another cigarette, I can't stand to be around any one who is smoking. I work very hard just to maintain my now very fragil health. About every 2 months I still have a bout with infections even though I take breathing treatments 2-3 times a day every day. I use oxygen while sleeping, and several medications every day just to maintain what little ground I can regain. One thing I absolutely do not want to be around is cigarette smoke! The very smell of it is disgusting to me, and I instantly gag when I smell it. This is what happens when cigarettes have come very close to killing you. Don't be a hard case like I was, quit before you get to the point that I did. As bad as my health has become, I still consider myself one of the fortunate ones. I haven't developed lung cancer, and I am still alive at 53.
