Get Sick: It Was My Time to Stop

History: 1-2 pks/day Marlboro Meduim 100- 10+years Cold Turkey...sort of. I have tried to quit literally thousands of times over the years using the patch, Welbrutin, and cold turkey (usually by throwing the pack out of the window). Nothing worked. Habit, addiction, and stress always led me to buy more. I started developing a lung condition similar to ashma and knew my time was running short. From my attempts before, I knew that the longer you go without a cig, the better it gets. So when I was on vacation, I get very sick, but I still tried to smoke. It got to the point that my beloved cigarettes tasted awfull. It was my time to stop. I then threw my mostly filled pack into the street and let my flu get better. When I got back home, I noticed that the urges were less, but my car still wanted to autopilot to 7-11; I resisted this. I also stayed away from my smoking brother and his girlfriend for 2 weeks, or else I'd pick one up again. Now, 6 mo later I have not picked up a cigarette. I am around my smoker friends and the thought never crosses my mind. * I can smell 10X better. I now know the unique new-construction smell of my house! * I have more endurance. * I have more money. * My lung problem and wheezing are completely gone. * Second hand smoke, which I didn't mind, now burns my throat and nose! * I gained weight, but I'm able to do cardio at the gym now. * I sleep better. I would smoke a cig late at night, go on the computer and just as I would get sleepy, I'd have another cig. This cycle could last 3-4 hours. I am by no means an anti-smoker, but most smokers know that the day will come where they will have to quit. I know it feels that it feels impossible, but believe me, if I quit so can you. I'm the guy at the bar who goes through 2 packs of cigarettes in 2 hrs! When I ran out of cigarettes late at night, I would smoke the butts and scavenge through the yard looking the half-used cigarettes to satisfy me cravings. Do yourself a favor and quit!
