Get Support: Smokers Anonymous Above All Else

by Deborah Brooks

After many years, many tries and many methods including hynotism, acupuncture, patch, gum, cold turkey, staple in the ear, no smoking tape, articles and wellbutrin, I found out about smokers annonymous, went to two meeting, set a stop date, smoked for the entire two weeks, read all the literature given at the meetings, then on the quit date, I when I got an urge for a cigarette I drank ice cold water and remembered that the urge only last a few minutes. It has been 11 1/2 months and although I have gained weight, it has been gradual. Not like in the past when I would put on 25 lbs in two months and suffer severe withdrawal symptoms, and have strong urges. This was real smooth and gradual.Do I still have a desire to smoke? Yes once in a while, for a very short period then I think about what I went through just to stop this time and then the desire is gone. They say it is mind over matter, well I truly believe that everything I heard and learned at smokers anonymous is still in my mind and I can recall it anytime I have an urge to light up and this has prevented mefrom lighting up.
