Gradual Smoking Reduction: Countdown to Zero

I'm surprised my method hasn't been praised by any quitters! It was explained to me by a doctor years ago: Smoke your regular amount for one week, starting on a SUNDAY only. Reduce the daily number of smokes by one cigarette/day for the next week. Continue counting down until zero. For example, a pack a day smoked would smoke 20-a-day for week 1, 19-a-day for week 2, 18-a-day for week 3 and so on for 20 weeks until they reach zero. RULES: 1.You have to start on a Sunday. 2.You cannot carry over unsmoked cigarettes 'til the next day and save them up. 3. You can stay at one number for two weeks, if you just can't cut back. 4. You can split one cigarette into two smokes. WHY IT WORKS: 1. It is so gradual, you don't feel it. 2. You can learn to deal with the multitude of triggers gradually, thereby increasing confidence. 3. After a few weeks and a little discomfort, you don't want to turn back and start smoking again. 4. You will have a lot of confidence by the time you reach zero. 5. It's free!!!
