Gradual Smoking Reduction: "I really don't need one"

What I did when I decided to quit was I picked a date 1 week from
the day I decided to quit (final quit date). During that week I
cut back to only smoking when I really needed one and couldn't
stand it anymore. This turned out to be only 3-4 cigarrettes per
day. Then on the final quit day I threw out the pack that I had
and have never smoked since. The first week was really hard but I
just told myself that "I really don't need one" and then just
went and did something. I haven't had a cigarrette in 5 months
and am really feeling better both physically and mentally.
