Health: 10 Years to Perfect Lungs

It took me about two years to quit smoking completely.
Eventually I became sick and tired of being, literally, a drug
addict and always thinking "I gotta quit". I realized I had been
smoking for almost half my life. Because of these reasons I
began to cut back on cigarettes, become less dependent on them.
During my final attempt I found support from other ex-smokers to
be really motivating and I read a few times a day a print-out of
a list of what happens to your body when you quit smoking. The
point I always keep in mind is that in about 10 years
pre-cancerous cells are replaced and the lung cancer death rate
is the same as a non-smoker. It's going to take 10 years to
repair the damage done but I consider to be lucky to have a
second chance. I don't want to increase my chances of dying
early especially when I think of my family and friends.
