Multiple Steps for Quitting Smoking: Forgive Yourself

by Karin

Cut Bank, Montana

1) Started attending a "Quit Tobacco" class at Adult Education on 01/15/02. 2) Got patches, gum, Xanax, made "fake cigs" and started talking on line with a friend that is involved with Nic-A. 3) Set a quit date (2/08/02) and chain smoked the evening of 02/07/02! 4) Jumped in the shower on 2/08 first thing, then put on a patch. Used the gum for the tougher cravings, used the Xanax for the Really tough times. 5) Forgave myself for having a drag, for stealing a couple cigs from my hubby, for buying a couple packs. 6) Smoked one whole weekend, but didn't smoke in the house or the car (?)(4/12-14/02) 7) Slapped on a patch-AGAIN! on 4/15/02 8) Took off the patch, quit the gum, kept the Xanax on 4/19/02. 9) Haven't had a nip of nicotine since...maybe the switch turned on. 10) Use the book "Out of the Ashes" when I am sitting in the car or at home and the junkie starts to think!
