Pogany Valley Glen, California Decide to quit one evening. Enjoy your last cigarette to it's fullest, go to bed and wake up thinking of yourself as a non-smoker. You've already gone 8 hours or so without smoking while you slept so you have a head start. Before you have coffee, which goes really well with a smoke, go for a walk, bike ride, anything that gets your heart pumping. Then, everytime you feel like you want a smoke, get up and do something. Clean your house, take a walk, wash the car, anything that keeps your hands busy and keeps you breating. If it is winter time and too cold to go out, keep cleaning the house, walk up and down the hall or something, clean out your closet. When you get hungry, and you will, a lot, eat fruit. Grapes are a great snack. Eat carrots, healthy and good to just hold in your mouth, like a smoke. Chew lots of gum too. I found it most beneficial not to tell anyone I was quitting. If you tell someone they keep asking you, "how's the non-smoking going? Are you craving a smoke yet?" That kind of pressure and constant reminder can make you go crazy and cave in to smoking. So, I just keep it to myself until someone notices I am not smoking and then I tell them, oh yes, I've quit, because by then, I really have. Good Luck!!
