Multiple Steps for Quitting Smoking: Lifesign, Nicorette, Zyban

by Dave Scheele

Began by setting my start quitting day which was on my 50th Birthday and commited myself that this was the last time!! Then devised the following plan combining all the techniques I had tryed in the past into one. I started by purchasing the Life Sign pocket quit smoking computer. I had tryed it once before and actually got down to 1 cig a day so I knew it could work. I started this on my 50th birthday and 28 days later from 3 packs a day, I smoked my last cigarette. During that 28 days I kept nicorette with me wherever I went. This was my insurance that if I got into a situation where I had to have a cigarette I would chew a piece of nicorette. This gave me the confidence I needed never to put another cigarette in my mouth again. Because the computer gradually takes you off cigarettes you do not go through the shock of all of a sudden no cigarettes at once. And teaches you patience while waiting for the computer to tell you the next time to smoke. When I got down to 4 to 6 to 8 hours between smokes it could get hairy but I always had my nicorette to comfort me If needed. I only used nicorette sparingly because I didnt want to get hooked on that too so the most I ever had was 1 a day. Now one week before my last cigarette I started myself on Zyban. I figured this would keep me calm after I smoked my last cig. I had tryed Zyban in the past too and after less than one week I through it out because it made my mouth dry and just made me want to smoke more, what I didnt do was wait for the drug to take full effect like I found out this time around it takes about a full week. So by my last cig day the Zyban had taken effect and I am on Day 33 smoke free!! I plan to stay on Zyban for another month or two and then take myself off. I am still commited to never putting another cigarette in my mouth again.
