Home > Nicotine Gum > "Nic Fit" Nicotine Gum: "Nic Fit"by Janet Crooke Carnock, Fife I used the gum but just as a backup measure when I became really at what I call the "nic fit" stage so used only about 4 pieces a day gradually reducing to none. I had one in the morning and one after each meal at first. Now I take no replacements at all. When I wish for a cigarette I go on the net. It is not any more expensive than my 20 a day habit at almost ú4 ($6) was. Cigarettes are more expensive here!!! I also clean my teeth and find that helps. It also makes for a fresh clean mouth and I am now going to buy ordinary gum. I will chew that if I feel like a gum. I only felt like a cigarette first thing and after each meal. I do not drink so had no need of a cigarette then so that is why my gum intake was so low. I have a friend who is an alcoholic and sometimes attend open meetings with them so I take the giving up smoking in the same way as the alcoholic gives up drink and say just for today I will not have a cigarette. I use some of their phrases too like live and let live so do not get into a tizzy which might make me reach for a cigarette and remind myself of their prayer to accept the things I cannot change (what other people do and say to me) but courage to change the things I can (the way I react to what other people do and say). Whether or not I reach for a cigarette!!!!!
