Nicotine Patch: The Patch and Weight Watchers - Quit and Lost 25 lbs.

by Kim Lawler

At this point, after having smoked for some 20 + years, I quit 80 days ago using the patch and I do not forsee ever going back. Smoking actually repulses me at this point. I found two things to be effect this time. First, the same week I quit, I joined Weight Watchers. People think that it must be so difficult to do both, but I found it much easier. I never wanted to quit smoking because I didn't want to gain more weight, but I never wanted to exercise to help me lose weight because I smoked. Also, many of the behavior modification strategies taught at WW can also be applied to quitting smoking. I have lost 12.5 lbs so far instead of gaining weight, which I have done in previous quit attempts. Second, my husband and i quit at the same time and talk very openly about our urges to smoke. We are able to talk each other out of it. We also just joined a gym. Good luck in whatever method you use. It's well worth the discomfort in the long run!
