Smoke a Different Brand of Cigarettes: I Switched to a Flavor I Hated

by Misty Garcia

This method is primarily for menthol smokers (or I guess it could be vise/versa). I smoked menthol cigarettes for 9 years. My mother was just diagnosed with lung cancer, which my grandmother had died of. Thus, seeing I am already in a genetic disposition I decided to fight fate. I am 25 years old. The way I did it (I tried before and failed going cold turkey) was I switched to a nonmenthol ultra light cigarette the first week. I did have some anxiety like sweats at first. But by switching to a flavor I hated, I slowly decreased the nicotine in my blood and also noticed I didn't finish the entire cigarette I began. The second week I did buy a pack (only one) then I would only smoke other peoples nonmenthol cigarettes and stopped purchasing them. This was easy because my mother and my brother both smoked the nasty kind. By the third week I just picked a day and said no more!! It has been six weeks and I don't even crave a drag! I only suggest this if you truly want to quit, or else nothing will ever make you. Good Luck
