Zyban: Cravings Pass Quickly

by Patricia Surrey

Brooklyn, New York
United States

I started out on Zyban, which acts on the nervous system calming the cravings while at the same time weakening the habit. But I was allergic and had to come off it after just two weeks. But I had quit after the first week and I was amazed that I was able to do it cold turkey! One thing that was very helpful to know was that the cravings will pass in 5 to 7 minutes even if you don't act on it. I had a fear that I was too weak and never really tried. I was afraid of the pain, the withdrawl. I didn't want to have to go through that. But it wasn't so bad! I also didn't want to be a failure. If I quit and went back that was how I'd feel. I'd rather be a smoker than a failure. Well, I did quit on April 24th 1999. More than a year now and feeling strong!
